On today's skin diaries segment, the beautiful tamilore bamidele shares her journey with her skin, how she gained back her confidence back and learned to love her skin no matter what. She talks about the importance of investing in your skincare and how going to a dermatologist helped her skin.
WHAT IS YOUR SKIN TYPE?
TB: I have super oily skin
WHAT DOES YOUR MORNING ROUTINE LOOK LIKE?
TB: I start off by washing my face with derma quest essential daily cleanser. I then follow it up with a face gel called zindaclin that goes on areas where I most commonly get breakouts.
After this i follow it up with 2-4 drops of obagi C-clarifying serum. Then I get a bit of the obagi sunscreen and the face moisturiser then mix the two in my palm together and blend into my skin.
WHAT ARE YOUR MAJOR SKIN CONCERNS?
I don't usually get spots but my scars take forever to fade. Unbeknownst to me, I used an expired product on my face and it caused the worst breakout I have ever had in my life which then left me with really deep scarring.
Hold up! Now do you see why y'all need to keep track of your skincare & makeup products. The shelf life is so so important, you don't want to damage your skin because you didn't pay attention to the dates. Treat it like your food, and make sure you throw it out when it's expired (even if it is not empty).
Throw it out - read this again if you need to remember how long your products last.
IS THERE ANYTHING IN PARTICULAR YOU FOCUS ON IN YOUR ROUTINE?
TB: The main goal for me is brighter skin but exfoliation is a close second.
ONE SKINCARE PRODUCT THAT YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT?
TB: I live for my obagi serum! It's a resurfacing product and I love nothing more than fresh skin.
WHAT DOES YOUR NIGHT TIME ROUTINE LOOK LIKE?
TB: I wash my fave with my dermaquest cleanser again and then 3 times a week I follow up with obagi clenziderm 2% salicylic acid cleanser. After this i use a pea size mix of tretinoin and obagi nu-derm blender and apply onto my face.
DESCRIBE YOUR SKIN JOURNEY IN A FEW WORDS.
TB: Definitely a roller coaster of emotions.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY YOUR SKIN JOURNEY HAS TAUGHT YOU?
TB: That I am more than my skin and everyone's journey is different. During the worst part of my skin journey I was still at uni so I had to see my friends pretty much everyday, the first few days were really tough (I started wearing my glasses as a distraction from my skin and everyone that knows me knows I hate wearing glasses) but as time went on I slowly gained back my confidence and it's only been up from there. Also to invest in your skin, I personally saw a dermatologist for a fix because it was a reaction but I wouldn't recommend buying skin products just because they're cheap or affordable. It's super important to read and study up on the ingredients so you at least have some knowledge as to what you're putting on your body.
Hope you enjoyed it!
