Hey guys!

I know I said I'd be sharing these every 2 weeks, and it's almost been a month 🙈 (time flies fast these days), but anyway today's skin diary is a favourite. I've known feyi for a long time, and she's pretty much had perfect skin for most of her life. Recently she had to deal with adult acne (the most annoying 😔), but she shares her skin routine and how she managed to get her skin back to how it used to be!

Feyi: I have super dry and flakey skin. I work hard to keep it plump but under all the products, I am crusty as hell. I suffer from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome like many other black women, so hormonal acne is the bane of my existence.

Feyi: My routine is focused on maintaining and protecting my moisture barrier. It turns out that most skin issues can be drastically improved if you stop looking at your skin as just: dry, oily or combination, and instead focus on nurturing your skin barrier. I try to keep it as simple as possible, my skin loves water so I feed it water!

  • Oil cleanse: I oil cleanse every morning for 5 minutes with Nutiva Hemp Oil. Oil cleansing is the real deal, it takes all the grit off your face. I place a hot flannel over my skin when I’m done (for absorbance) and then I wipe the oil off. Hemp is great for acne and it’s anti-inflammatory so I want to get it all up in my pores.

  • Cleanse: I alternate every 3 days - Fresh Soy Face Cleanser and Dermalogica Clearing Skin Wash. Fresh is hydrating and leaves my skin supple - I use this when my skin feels tight or if I plan to apply a retinoid. Dermalogica is harsher and drying but a good exfoliator.

  • Tone: Paula’s Choice Enriched Calming Toner is bomb for all my dry skin pals - it delivers intense hydration and replenishes moisture. I then spray Vichy Thermal Spa Water (basically fancy water in a spray can) and leave on for ~ 30 seconds - damp skin is much more permeable than dry skin, and I want my serums to GO IN.

  • Serums: Aka the unsung heroes of skincare. Cosrx Snail Mucin and Vichy Hyaluronic Acid are my favessss because they make my skin soft as a baby’s bottom. Hyaluronic acid is a game changer. It keeps my skin hydrated with a healthy glow! Snail Mucin does everything from fading dark spots and scars to plumping, hydrating and battling acne - holy grail product.

  • Seal: I seal my serums in with The Ordinary Borage Seed Oil - It calms and nourishes, and has a redness-erasing prowess. It’s also brilliant in soothing acne-troubled skin.

  • Sunscreen: PLEASE please use sunscreen. London or Lagos - the sun actually does not care. Cosrx Aloe Soothing Sun Cream SPF 50 is my baby, I love this because it doesn’t leave your girl looking like a ghost + it’s made with aloe vera so it is soothing and hydrating.

Feyi: Life without my CosrxSnail Mucin is no life at all. Yes, it’s snail goo...but hear me out. It penetrates deeeep and is just amazing when my skin is parched and in dire need of saving. I actually look like a woman who sleeps.

Feyi: I basically do everything in my morning routine and then add:

  • Adapalene:  I was prescribed Differin (adapalene) when I had crazy breakouts. I put on a thin film of the cream with my fingertips and rub in gently. I’ve gone from using this every other day to every two-three weeks now, just to remind the skin that I’m the captain.

  • Seal: I lather on Cerave Healing Ointment. This stuff is a game changer, it rebuilds your moisture barrier and soothes inflammation/cracked skin.

Feyi:My skincare journey has been reaaaaal. I never had acne as a kid so this took me by complete surprise, and really threw me off. I had no clue how to deal with acne internally and externally. There were days that I literally couldn’t leave my house because I looked so different. But it taught me so much about my body and what it loves + hates. The entire thing works together, your gut health and even mental health have a massive impact on your skin. I had to pay a lot more attention to what was going into my body.

Feyi: I fought my acne with loads of research, love and prayer - press hard on God and your GP/Dermatologist/Esthetician. Find out what works for you and stop looking for quick fixes. But most importantly, please be gentle with yourself. Stressing about it only wreaks more havoc. You really have to love yourself through it. We post the cute pictures but really everyone’s skin has its own mind and is on a crazy rollercoaster. Be patient and then be even more patient, you’ll figure it out <3

Feyi: “Let your true beauty come from your inner personality, not a focus on the external. For lasting beauty comes from a gentle and peaceful spirit, which is precious in God’s sight and is much more important than the outward adornment of elaborate hair, jewelry, and fine clothes.”1 Peter 3:3-4 TPT

One of my favourite things to do is look at skin transformations and read about other people's skin journey's. Whether my skin is in a good place or not, it's always inspiring to see people transform (for the better). I 100% agree that your mental health can impact both your skin and body. It's very important for us to be kind to ourselves especially when our body is going through changes we don't particularly like.

I asked her a few quick-fire questions, for some fun:

WHAT'S SOMETHING YOU DO EVERY MORNING WITHOUT FAIL? Feyi: Journal! I’ve got to speak to my bestie, Jesus ❤️ FAVOURITE PART OF YOUR ROUTINE? Feyi: The little cute dance I do while I oil cleanse lol! WHAT DO YOU LOVE THE MOST ABOUT YOURSELF? Feyi: I love my energy and how it tends to light up a room BEST ADVICE YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED? Feyi: “This the time, the opportunity ... so enjoy yourself, have fun, shineeeee your eyes and get the best out of eet.” S/o Pawpaw. ONE THING YOU'D TELL YOUR YOUNGER SELF? Feyi: Listen to Pawpaw 🤪

Hope you enjoyed this!
