Another skin diaries episode, and this time, featuring Ayodeji Awonuga @ayodejia a.k.a the senior minister of enjoyment. Her instagram bio says "I travel, I eat, I enjoy" and who says skincare is not the best form of enjoyment? She talks about how her skin took a weird, chaotic turn, but through patience she was able to get it back to its best self.
DESCRIBE YOUR SKIN JOURNEY IN A FEW WORDS
AA: Girl!! Skin journey started out cool and clear, then out of nowhere, chaotic! But now we have an understanding so we're besties. We work with each other!
WHAT IS YOUR SKINCARE REGIMEN?
AA: I have a morning and nighttime routine that's pretty much the same but the products are different.
It goes; cleanser, double cleanse, toner, treatment, eye cream, serum, moisturise & sunscreen!
Whew that sounds like a lot, but honestly it takes me maybe 5-6 minutes.
But once a week, I go in deep with 15 minute face steaming plus all my favourite face masks. That usually lasts like a good 45 minutes but I make it like a spa/pamper session.
WHAT DO YOU FOCUS ON IN YOUR ROUTINE?
AA: I focus a lot on texture and pigmentation. I feel like a bad bitch when my skin feels softer than a baby's bum and I focus on my skin being the same one delicious caramel colour. Would you say I'm caramel or like on the way to light skin? Lool kidding!
I KNOW YOU TRAVEL A LOT, HOW DO YOU MAKE SURE YOU KEEP YOUR SKIN LOOKING GREAT ON THE GO?
AA: So with travel, It truly depends on the climate I'm in. For instance when in Cape Verde, it was really hot so I took fewer products and I focused mainly on clean skin + moisture + sunscreen.
I try not to do too much when I'm travelling. But if it's a cool climate like London in the winter, I go in with all my products because the cool weather honestly allows my products work better.
ARE THERE ANY BEAUTY PRODUCTS/PRACTICES YOU THINK ARE INESSENTIAL?
AA: Hmm, I think that whole 10 step skincare routine is doing too much! Like how much can your skin take every single day. All that pulling and prodding and slapping on more especially with the wrong products will do more harm than good.
HAVE YOU INTRODUCED ANYTHING NEW TO YOUR ROUTINE WHILE STAYING AT HOME?
AA: Of course, this is the time to experiment. I'm a big fan of natural skincare but somehow never tried honey. I tried a face mask with Manuka honey and avocado and I loved how my skin felt, even threw it on my hair too. I'll be doing that more often cause I noticed a difference in my skin & hair texture.
WHAT IS ONE BEAUTY/SKINCARE PRODUCT YOU CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT?
AA: I cannot live without my rose hip seed oil. It is amazing for evening out my skin tone, clearing scars, it's my holy grail product!
Some quick-fire questions:
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TIME OF THE DAY?
AA: Don't Judge me! It's 3-4am wish! Where everywhere is quiet and no one is moving about.
FAVOURITE PLACE YOU'VE TRAVELLED TO?
AA: Has got to be Cappadocia, Turkey. I'm meant to be there right now! It's such a dream.
FAVOURITE PLACE YOU'VE EVER EATEN?
AA: Portugal!! The home of the piri piri & the Quejedinhas. I still dream about the food from portugal.
WHEN ARE YOU MOST INSPIRED?
AA: When i'm touring a new country and taking in the history, culture and the beautiful colours of the sunset.
ONE THING THAT HAS BEEN KEEPING YOU SANE DURING QUARANTINE?
AA: One is hard o! Between journalling and music. Writing it all out has been a great release for me, or I dance it out!
3 THINGS YOU CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT?
The love of my life, Mr Mayii
Oreos! or should i just say food. LOL
Hope you enjoyed this!
